A New Era is Taking Off at the QC Airport

For more than 40 years, the Quad Cities International Airport terminal has welcomed travelers from across our region and around the world. It has seen family reunions, business trips, military homecomings, vacations and countless moments that matter.

But the way we travel has changed dramatically since our terminal was built. Today’s travelers expect more comfort, accessibility, convenience and flexibility than ever before, and it’s time for our airport to evolve alongside those expectations.

That’s why we’re excited to officially begin Phase 2 of Project GATEWAY, the largest and most passenger-focused investment in our airport’s modern history.

Over the next 18 months, travelers will begin to see major improvements throughout nearly every public area from the terminal entrance to the security checkpoint. This phase of the project is designed to create a brighter, more welcoming and more efficient experience for everyone who walks through our doors.

Some of the upgrades coming in Phase 2 include:

  • Expanded restrooms designed to exceed ADA standards
  • New nursing mothers’ suites and companion care restrooms
  • Updated seating and lounge areas
  • A refreshed restaurant and gift shop with more grab-and-go and healthy options
  • A new outdoor lounge space
  • Additional restrooms in baggage claim
  • Replacement of the airport’s original brown brick flooring with modern terrazzo finishes
  • Enhanced lighting, finishes and wayfinding throughout the terminal

As Executive Director Benjamin Leischner shared during the groundbreaking ceremony:

“This is more than a construction project. It’s a statement about who we are as a region and where we’re going.”

We’re also proud that this project continues a strong commitment to local partnerships and skilled labor. Davenport-based Estes Construction is leading the construction effort alongside regional trade partners through an IMPACT agreement, while nationally respected aviation designers Mead & Hunt are leading the architectural vision for the project.

Most importantly, we want our passengers and community to know this work is being done with you in mind. Whether you fly once a year for vacation, travel regularly for work, or simply take pride in having a strong regional airport, Project GATEWAY is about creating an airport experience that reflects the strength and momentum of the Quad Cities region.

Construction will happen in phases to minimize disruptions, and we’ll continue sharing updates, photos and milestones along the way.

Thank you for continuing to support your local airport and the future of air service in the Quad Cities.
