There is a free children's bookcase located near the passenger waiting area outside of security/screening for children to take a free book. It is our hope that traveling familes or those coming to meet and greet their loved ones, will take a free book. However, we are also in need of books to either be returned at some point, or, donations of books to continue from the community, in order to keep the bookcase and free little library up and running.
The QCIA will be registering the bookcase to the little library registry. Previously, the bookcase was available in the public area. Even though we received donations from tenants, employees and the public, those donations couldn't keep up with the demand and the books were flying off the shelves. With the concept of a free little library, the intention is that books are borrowed and returned, or that donations of books may be received by those who use the library. While this is not a requirement to take a book, it would be helpful in the process of trying to maintain the bookcase for future months and years.
The Quad City International Airport would like to thank community volunteer and retired school teacher Ms. Jan Carpenter for her generosity in donating hundreds of books over the past several years, and also for sorting the books by reading level.
Cathie Rochau, Marketing Director says "We could not have continued the bookcase and free little library without Jan's help. She has been extremely generous with her donation of books for a variety of ages, as well as with her time in sorting and advocating for the bookcase to remain available to children for reading."
The Quad City International Airport accepts donations of gently used books for all ages by appointment at the main office, located in the west end administrative offices during business hours Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. The office is closed weekends, and major holidays.
