WHO: Paintings by Jaclyn Garlock, fine art jewelry by Minday Diaz
Quad City Arts’ Art @ the Airport presents paintings by Jaclyn Garlock of Clear Lake, Iowa and fine art jewelry by Mindy Diaz of Rock Island
Jaclyn Garlock’s large acrylic paintings look as though she has captured a second in a time. Before she paints, she asks her subjects to pose in contrived “candid” positions for a photo session, complete with several costume changes and short situations to act out. She then combines and rearranges the photos until she’s satisfied with a composition that depicts an idea she wants to explore. Intense color is a strong trait of Garlock’s work. In her artist’s statement, she writes, “I have a physical need for strong primary color, and images that are in your face. I want bold paint and subjects that are larger than life, art that speaks for itself and knocks your sox off. I want my art to interrupt you and make you stare and not let you forget that it is there. My art has way too much make up and really big hair.”
A perfect complement to Garlock’s luscious paintings will be gorgeous fine art jewelry by Mindy Diaz. Diaz has been designing and creating jewelry for over 30 years and she has developed a style that is all her own. Her gemstone-based designs are created to showcase each gemstone’s unique beauty. Like Garlock, her work is bold, stylized and says, “Look at me!”
